Beschreibung

Using seawater in industrial cooling systems is commonly used in areas with scarcity of freshwater. However, biofouling is one of the major operational problems associated with this practice. A biocide is typically added to eliminate, or at least reduce, biofouling. The aim of this research work is to develop a systematic approach to the optimal operating and design alternatives for integrated industrial seawater cooling. This work focuses on resource conservation and the environment in the process industries, with an emphasis on water conservation and management, and optimization of industrial seawater cooling. Dr. Bin Mahfouz has developed a novel approach to the design of seawater cooling systems and performing energy integration while optimizing biocide usage and discharge with scheduling heat exhcngaers maintenance. This state-of-the-art process integration research involves innovative optimization formulations that reconcile the economic, energy and environmental objectives of the cooling system. The employed optimization formulations are aimed to systemize the decision-making and to reconcile the various, technical, and environmental aspects of the problem.
